The Y-Princess Program wishes to be respectful of the Native American Indian culture.  Please see http://www.native-languages.org/ymca.htm for several way to encourage that respect within our Y-Princess tribes.

What is the -Princess program?
The Y-Princess Program is a part of the YMCA Parent/Child Program. It is built on the foundation of building strong relationships with "Father and Daughter".  It allows Dad's to carve out one on one time with their child in a positive atmosphere.  This program frees up a dads time by planning and organizing events which both parent and child can enjoy.  The dad's don't spend time searching, planning, organizing, and making reservations but sign up and go.  Keeping costs down is important. We usually get price breaks and extra benefits because of our size and relationship with the YMCA.  We own a lot of our equipment.

Y-Princess is designed for a dad and his 5- to 11-year-old daughter. In Y-Princess, the focus is on the parent's role as a guide in a child's life. Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence, and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. They lead by example as they set their children on a path through life. The program experience begins as a side-by-side journey for a parent and child.

In Y-Princess, the journey happens within the context of a small group community called a Tribe. Tribes are composed of parent and child pairs generally from the same school or neighborhood.  Braves (dads) and Princesses (daughters) Tribes meet in the member's homes on a rotating monthly basis. Tribes provide structure, a sense of community, and support for all group activities. A typical meeting includes crafts, stories, activities, and snacks.

All the Tribes participate in a larger (Nation) activities (e.g., overnight camping, pinewood derby, bowling, etc) throughout the year.

What is the Program's Purpose?
